Diesel Testing

Taxed diesel is often mixed / adulterated with untaxed illuminating paraffin by illegal operators looking to increase profits by defrauding authorities and unsuspected buyers. These illegal activities frequently happen unbeknown to large users. Adulteration can cause serious damage to your diesel powered assets, thereby reducing their effective lifespan and increasing costs of repairs and maintenance. In addition, unsuspecting operators risk the detention of such valuable operating assets such as vehicles, product etc. when adulterated cargo is found in vehicles or on the premises of large users by authorities excise officials leading to protracted investigations and litigation.

COC has developed generic and client specific diesel testing programs that can be used to accurately monitor and control the quality of your diesel. Through implementing a diesel testing program in your current management systems, any diesel that has been mixed / adulterated with illuminating paraffin can be detected at point of loading at supplier or point of delivery at your storage facility. Our diesel testing programs further allow for random sampling to be taken from your equipment for on the spot testing with LFD testing kits.

What are the effects or consequences when trading with mixed diesel?

  • Engines will eventually damage or cease to function and cause high maintenance and repair costs.
  • Receiving, trading or using illicitly mixed Diesel will on inspection lead to the detention of such goods including the assets (i.e. truck, tank, etc.)
  • Mixed product are seized by South African Revenue Service inspectors and may be forfeited to the State by being removed for destruction leading to direct and immense business losses to unsuspected traders.
  • Adulterated Diesel is subject to forfeiture and penalty once the extent of duty liability has been determined.
  • Mixed Diesel lead to deleterious environmental and adverse health effects that impacts the lives of countless people.

COC can assist and consult with clients so that the diesel testing program forms part of the quality management system, environmental management system and occupational health and safety system. We can further help you to implement and monitor this in your current management systems on an on-going basis.
